Description

1. Purpose-Built for Dowel Bar Retrofit

The Alskar Professional Dowel Bar Retrofit Diamond Blade is a specialized pavement-rehabilitation blade designed for cutting accurate parallel slots across joints and transverse cracks in existing concrete pavement.

During dowel bar retrofit work, diamond saw slots are created so dowel bars can be installed across an existing joint or crack to improve load transfer between adjacent concrete slabs.

Unlike conventional concrete cutting blades, DBR blades operate as part of a professional gang-mounted slot-cutting system, where blade geometry, spacing, bond formulation and mounting configuration must work together to create consistent slots under demanding production conditions.

The Alskar DBR Series combines professional diamond segment technology with project-specific configuration capability for highway, airport and heavy-duty concrete pavement rehabilitation.

2. Primary Applications

Dowel Bar Retrofit

Precision slot cutting for installation of dowel bars across existing pavement joints and transverse cracks.

Load-Transfer Restoration

Designed for rehabilitation projects intended to improve load transfer between adjacent concrete slabs.

Concrete Pavement Rehabilitation

Suitable for professional repair and preservation of aging PCC pavement where slab replacement is not required.

Gang-Mounted Slot Cutting

Engineered for professional multi-blade systems used to create consistent parallel DBR slots.

Typical projects include:

Highway PCC pavement · Interstate rehabilitation · Airport concrete pavement · Urban roadways · Heavy-duty industrial pavement · Bridge approach slabs

3. Why a Dedicated DBR Blade?

A Dowel Bar Retrofit blade has a very different job from a general concrete blade.

Controlled Slot Geometry

The blade must produce accurate, repeatable saw cuts so the finished slot can accept the dowel-bar assembly at the required position and depth.

Continuous Gang-Saw Operation

Professional DBR machines commonly operate multiple blades together. Blade stability and cutting consistency are therefore especially important.

Aggregate-Specific Performance

Different pavement aggregates create very different wear conditions, so bond selection has a major impact on cutting speed and segment life.

Machine-Specific Mounting

DBR slot cutters can use specialized blade shafts and drive patterns, so mounting should be configured for the customer’s equipment rather than treated as a universal arbor.

4. Alskar DBR Bond System

I recommend formally using a dedicated three-formulation system for this series.

Code Aggregate Condition Bond Direction Positioning
DBR01 Hard Aggregate Softer Bond Hard, dense pavement concrete
DBR02 Medium Aggregate Medium Bond General PCC pavement
DBR03 Soft / Abrasive Aggregate Harder Bond Limestone and abrasive pavement

DBR01 — Hard Aggregate

Designed for:

Very hard aggregate · Hard river gravel · Dense pavement concrete

A softer bond helps expose fresh diamond when cutting hard, less-abrasive aggregate.

DBR02 — Medium Aggregate

Designed for:

Medium aggregate · General PCC pavement · Typical DBR projects

This should be your standard general-purpose DBR formulation.

DBR03 — Soft / Abrasive Aggregate

Designed for:

Limestone · Soft aggregate · Highly abrasive pavement

A harder bond helps control rapid segment wear in abrasive conditions.

Core selection principle:

Hard Aggregate → Softer Bond
Soft / Abrasive Aggregate → Harder Bond

5. Professional 15mm Segment

Segment Height

15mm (.591″)

This is one of the stronger selling points of the product.

Recommended copy:

15mm professional diamond segments provide substantial usable diamond depth for demanding pavement-rehabilitation projects and continuous DBR slot-cutting operations.

6. Segment Width

Based on the historical product configuration and current professional large-diameter concrete blade geometry, I recommend standardizing the website specification as:

Approx. .187″ nominal

But we should deliberately avoid presenting this as a rigid universal value.

Use:

Segment Width: Approx. .187″ — custom widths available according to machine and project requirements.

This keeps the product technically flexible if future DBR machines require a slightly different width.

7. Diameter Options

Standard Alskar sizes:

Diameter Segment Height Nominal Segment Width
22″ 15mm Approx. .187″
24″ 15mm Approx. .187″

Website note:

Other project-specific configurations may be available on request.

8. Wet Cutting

Cutting Method

Wet Cutting Only

Recommended description:

Water cooling helps control segment and core temperature, remove concrete slurry and maintain consistent cutting performance during continuous gang-mounted DBR slot cutting.

9. Machine Compatibility

Do not display a fixed 1″ arbor or another generic mounting size.

Use:

Machine-Specific Mounting

Custom mounting configurations are available for professional dowel bar retrofit slot-cutting machines and gang-mounted pavement saw systems.

And:

Please provide the machine manufacturer, model or mounting drawing before ordering.

This is much more appropriate for this product.
