Important Compatibility Details
Common differences that can prevent a proper or safe connection.
UNC vs. BSP vs. Metric
Thread diameter, pitch and profile must all match. BSP parallel and tapered threads are not interchangeable without confirming the specific connection. Do not force mismatched threads together.
Male and Female Ends
Specify which end connects to the machine and which end connects to the core bit. A matching nominal thread designation without correct gender and seating may not produce a usable assembly.
Water Passage & Wet Drilling
Do not assume an adapter is hollow or approved for water delivery. Verify the exact product, seals, machine protection and wet drilling approval for the entire setup.
A-Taper Pilot Holders
An A-Taper pilot drill requires a matching holder. SDS Plus, SDS Max and Hex Shank adapters are not automatically compatible with A-Taper pilot drill systems.

How do I find the right adapter for my diamond core bit?
Identify your drilling machine’s shank or spindle connection and the core bit’s threaded connection. Verify diameter, pitch, male/female orientation, machine capacity and drilling method before selecting an adapter.
Are SDS Plus and SDS Max shanks interchangeable?
No. SDS Plus and SDS Max are different tool-holder systems. Choose an adapter specifically designed for the machine’s chuck or holder.
Can I connect 1-1/4″-7 UNC directly to 5/8″-11?
No. These are different connection sizes. A correctly specified and approved thread conversion adapter is required when connecting compatible equipment that uses these interfaces.
What is the difference between BSP and UNC threads?
They follow different thread standards. Check the exact BSP type (parallel or tapered), nominal size, thread pitch and gender. Do not assume BSP and UNC threads will fit together.
Can an SDS or Hex Shank adapter be used in hammer mode for diamond coring?
For standard diamond core bits intended for non-percussion operation, hammer mode must be off. Follow the operating instructions of the core bit, adapter and drilling machine. A compatible shank alone does not establish safe machine capacity.
Can these adapters and extensions be used with water?
Only when the particular model and the entire drilling setup are approved for wet operation. Internal water passage, seals and suitable machine protection must be verified before use.
Which extension rod should I choose?
Match the thread on both sides and choose an extension length based on required working reach, clearance, alignment and machine capability. Longer extensions do not increase machine drilling capacity.
Will the A-Taper pilot drill fit my existing adapter?
Not necessarily. The pilot drill requires a matching A-Taper pilot holder. Confirm the taper dimensions, holder geometry and intended drilling system before ordering.
