| Series | Cutting Tip | Machine / Application | Selection Check |
|---|---|---|---|
| SW5 | 26g tungsten carbide | Low-to-medium HP cold milling machines; approximately 1.0m milling width. | Match groove configuration, geometry and retaining system. |
| SW6 | 30.8g tungsten carbide | Medium-to-high HP compact cold milling machines. | Match groove configuration, geometry and retaining system. |
| SW7 | 41g tungsten carbide | Large cold milling machines. | Match groove configuration, geometry and retaining system. |
| SW8 | 48g tungsten carbide | Large cold milling machines. | Match groove configuration, geometry and retaining system. |
| PCD W6-Type | PCD; weight to be confirmed | Compatible compact cold milling machines; relatively homogeneous asphalt. | Confirm head configuration and operating conditions. |
All five series list a 20mm shank, 88mm overall length and 48mm reference length. These shared dimensions do not make the picks interchangeable. Carbide weights refer to the tip only; a heavier tip is not an automatic performance upgrade.

Road Milling Tool FAQs
How do I choose between SW5, SW6, SW7 and SW8?
Start with the machine and tool holder. SW5 is listed for low-to-medium HP machines, including approximately 1.0m milling widths; SW6 for medium-to-high HP compact machines; SW7 and SW8 for large cold milling machines. Then compare the tip geometry, carbide weight and head configuration. These categories do not guarantee fitment.
When should I consider PCD instead of tungsten carbide?
Consider the PCD option for relatively homogeneous asphalt where abrasive wear and tool-change intervals are priorities. Severe impact, embedded metal or highly irregular surfaces require separate evaluation. Service life depends on the application; no fixed life multiplier is promised.
Do all 20mm milling picks fit the same machines?
No. Shank diameter alone does not establish compatibility. Check the pick head geometry, holder, retaining sleeve, wear plate and drum configuration against the machine requirements.
What is the difference between grooved and non-grooved picks?
On SW5–SW8, the -G/20 version has an extractor groove, while the /20 version has no groove. The groove provides access for suitable extraction tools. Both versions within each series share the listed tip specifications and primary dimensions. The PCD head configuration must be confirmed separately.
Are 26g, 30.8g, 41g and 48g the total pick weights?
No. They are tungsten carbide tip weights for SW5, SW6, SW7 and SW8 respectively. They are not the total weights of the complete milling picks. The PCD tip weight is not confirmed on its product page.
Can these picks be used for concrete milling?
These five products are presented for asphalt milling. Concrete milling requires a separately evaluated cutting tool and machine configuration. Do not infer concrete suitability from a matching shank size.
Are these original WIRTGEN products?
No. ALSKAR supplies independent aftermarket products. WIRTGEN models and part numbers are identification cross-references only. The PCD version has no established WIRTGEN OEM PCD part number.
Can I request a bulk order or machine-specific recommendation?
Yes. Use the inquiry form below to provide the product series, quantity, machine model, holder details, pavement conditions and delivery destination. ALSKAR can review the specification and confirm availability, packaging and quotation details.
